How to Use Selenium?

How-to-Use-Selenium

Introduction to Selenium Webdriver

Webdriver is a web automation framework that enables us to use a programming language in order to execute scripts in different web browsers like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, etc. It controls the browser from the OS level. All it requires is a script to run and a web browser. Selenium web driver supports different programming languages like Java, Python, Ruby, Perl, PHP, .NET, etc.

Requirements:

Selenium package: This can be installed by using the following command.

pip install selenium

Drivers: Different browsers will have different drivers that are needed to be downloaded before using them.
For chrome: chromium driver, download it from the following link.

https://sites.google.com/a/chromium.org/chromedriver/downloads

For Firefox: Gecko driver, download it from the following link.

https://github.com/mozilla/geckodriver/releases

For Microsoft Edge: internet explorer driver, download it from:

https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/tools/webdriver/

For safari: Safari driver, download it from:

https://webkit.org/blog/6900/webdriver-support-in-safari-10/

For windows users, after downloading the required driver, unzip the file.
Place the file in a directory and save the path to that directory.
Add the path in the environment variables as a path, and save the path for later use.

Usage of Selenium WebDriver

From the selenium package we need to import web driver, this can be done by:

from selenium import webdriver

Create a driver by using the following code:

driver = webdriver.Firefox(‘path to geckodriver’)

Here, for instance, I have used geckodriver for the firefox browser you can use anything instead.

Pick a url where this webdriver has to head and place the url inside driver.get() method, this method automates the driver towards the url. For instance, let us use url to search selenium in Wikipedia.

driver.get(‘https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selenium’)

To automatically close the browser after opening it use driver.quit() at the end of the code.
Summing up all the above steps the following will be the python script,

from selenium import webdriver
driver = webdriver.Firefox(‘path to geckodriver’)
driver.get(‘https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selenium’)
driver.quit()

how to use selenium 1

The above web page gets opened after running the above script, but the page automatically gets closed because of driver.quit() option so we can use that as optional.
This selenium web driver also supports the HtmlUnit browser which is used for headless browsing which means the webpage can be accessed without opening the web browser, this can be done as follows.
Import options from selenium as:

from selenium.webdriver.firefox.options import Options

Set the options to headless and then include it along with the path of the driver as:

options = Options()
driver = webdriver.Firefox(‘path to geckodriver’,options = options)

Web driver provides many number of ways to find the elements from the web page through xpath, is, name, css_name, css_selector etc.
Locating elements can be used as follows,

driver.find_element_by_xpath(‘xpath value’)

all the values for the locating elements can be found by inspecting the web page.

Let us consider another example by using locating elements,

Here we will work login automation for a website called Quora.
First, let us get the URL path for Quora website and include it in the driver.get()
Then the page might look like this,

how to use selenium 2

Now inspect each element by right-clicking on the element and select inspect element option to find the value of the element as shown below.

how to use selenium 3

Copy the value of the locating element and according to the value selected use the following code,

Email = driver.find_element_by_id(id = ‘value of id’)

In the above-given website, the values of email id and password has to be entered which can be done by,

Email.send_keys(‘enter the email id’)

Similarly, enter all the required fields and then we have to press the login button to do this inspect the value of login button, and then write the following code.

Button = driver.find_element_by_id(id = ‘value of login button’)
Button.click()

Then automatically the website will be redirected to the account as shown below.

how to use selenium 4

Summing up all the above steps python script will be as below.

from selenium import webdriver
driver = webdriver.Firefox(‘C:\\geckodriver’)
driver.get(‘https://www.quora.com/’)
email = driver.find_element_by_name(“email”)
email.send_keys(‘enter the email id’)
password = driver.find_element_by_name(‘password’)
passsword.send_keys(‘enter the password’)
button = driver.find_element_by_xpath(‘//*[@id=”__w2_wQpenGLD21_submit_button”]’)
button.click()

Locating Elements with Selenium:

There are different ways to locate elements in a web page. The following are the different methods to locate elements.

Example #1: Find element by id

We can use this method when we know id attribute of an element. Let say we have a page source as follows.

Code:

<html>
<body>
<form id=”loginForm”>
<input name=”username” type=”text” />
<input name=”password” type=”password” />
<input name=”continue” type=”submit” value=”Login” />
</form>
</body>
<html>

We can locate the form below

login_form = driver.find_element_by_id(‘loginForm’)

Example #2: Find element by name

We can use this when we know the name attribute of an element. Consider the following source.

Code:

<html>
<body>
<form id=”loginForm”>
<input name=”username” type=”text” />
<input name=”password” type=”password” />
<input name=”continue” type=”submit” value=”Login” />
<input name=”continue” type=”button” value=”Clear” />
</form>
</body>
<html>

We can extract username and password like this.

username = driver.find_element_by_name(‘username’)
password = driver.find_element_by_name(‘password’)

Example #3: Find element by XPath

With XPath consider the page source as follows.

Code:

<html>
<body>
<form id=”loginForm”>
<input name=”username” type=”text” />
<input name=”password” type=”password” />
<input name=”continue” type=”submit” value=”Login” />
<input name=”continue” type=”button” value=”Clear” />
</form>
</body>
<html>

Elements can be located like this.

login_form = driver.find_element_by_xpath(“/html/body/form[1]”)
login_form = driver.find_element_by_xpath(“//form[1]”)
login_form = driver.find_element_by_xpath(“//form[@id=’loginForm’]”)

Example #4: Find element by line_text

We can locate hyperlinks with link text as follows. Consider the page source as follows.

Code:

<html>
<body>
<p>Are you sure you want to do this?</p>
<a href=”continue.html”>Continue</a>
<a href=”cancel.html”>Cancel</a>
</body>
<html>

Continue link can be located like this.

continue_link = driver.find_element_by_link_text(‘Continue’)
continue_link = driver.find_element_by_partial_link_text(‘Conti’)

Example #5: Locate Elements by CSS Selector

This method allows you to locate elements by class attribute name. Below is the source.

Code:

<html>
<body>
<div class=”round-button”>Click Here</p>
</body>
<html>

We can locate css sector as below.

get_div = driver.find_element_by_css_selector(‘div.round-button’)

Example #6: Locate Elements by Tagname

This method allows you to find a web-element by specifying the tag name.

Code:

<html>
<body>
<title>Hello Python</title>
<p>Learn test automation using Python</p>
</body>
<html>

The above code has a title tag with some text. You can find it using the below code.

get_div = driver.find_element_by_tag_name(‘title’)

 You can find the reference link below.

The BYTE is the Grand Prize Winner of the 2020 Hackaday Prize

The BYTE, an open-source mouth-actuated input device for people with physical challenges has just been named the Grand Prize winner of the 2020 Hackaday Prize. The award for claiming the top place and title of “Best All Around” in this global engineering initiative is $50,000. Five other top winners and four honorable mentions were also named during this evening’s Hackaday Prize Ceremony, held during the Hackaday Remoticon virtual conference.

This year’s Hackaday Prize focused on challenges put forth by four non-profit partners who have first hand knowledge of the problems that need solving as they work to accomplish their missions. These organizations are Conservation X Labs, United Cerebral Palsy Los Angeles, CalEarth, and Field Ready. Join us below for more on the grand prize winner and to see the Best in Category and Honorable Mention winners from each non-profit challenge, as well as the Best Wildcard project.

Over $200,000 in cash prizes have been distributed as part of this year’s initiative where hundreds of hardware hackers, makers, and artists competed to build a better future.

Best All Around: The BYTE

The BYTE is the Grand Prize winner of the 2020 Hackaday Prize. This responsive hands-free interface is affordable, versatile, and will be life changing for people who have limited or no mobility for using traditional input devices. The BYTE has a tongue sensor for directional movement and a pressure sensitive bite sensor for selection input.

At first glance this is a computer mouse you can put in your mouth. Since the jaw and tongue are core motor functions in humans, many people who have limited or no control over other parts of their body still retain great mobility in their mouth. Being otherwise unable to affect the world around them, mouth-based interfaces have been transformative.

The BYTE goes far beyond the utility of traditional sip-and-puff interfaces by internalizing the joystick functionality using tongue pressure, converting the air pressure-based input to bite control, adding a vibration motor for haptic feedback, and implementing advanced control options in how the sensors can be used. Light bite pressure and directional input (we’ll call that d-pad for short) moves the mouse, firm bites are clicks, even pressure on the d-pad is mapped as custom input as is a long bite, and pressing up or down on the d-pad without a bite will scroll.

The BYTE’s input sensors have been designed to fit inside of an adult-sized pacifier nipple, readily available at low cost and safe to have inside your mouth. The wire that snakes out ends in an RJ45 phone jack to interface with a small board that converts the signals to a USB connection. While a number of 3D-printed parts have been used in the prototype, these would be easy to injection mold as part of a volume manufacturing run.

The United Cerebral Palsy Los Angeles design brief for the 2020 Hackaday Prize specifically called for new designs of trackballs or joysticks that could be made affordable and open source, and be a tool for greater independence in the lives of those with physical challenges. The well-engineered design of the BYTE fulfills those goals and is a deserving recipient of the grand prize. Congratulations!

Conservation X Labs Prizes:

Best in Category: Solar Scare Mosquito 2.0

This floating sensor is designed to detect and classify mosquitoes present in an area to help researchers know if the region is at risk of spreading disease based on the species and sex of the mosquitoes. It also seeks to help eliminate their ability to reproduce by using air bubble to cause surface ripples in the water, preventing larvae from breathing at the surface of stagnant water. Prize: $10,000

Honorable Mention: WaterAid

This portable sensor package can gather and report water-quality data. It includes a set-and-forget solution for data collection, using multiple water sensors to report back via a 3G connection and powered by a solar panel. The online dashboard developed as part of the project means the data is not only available, but actionable. Prize: $3,000

Field Ready Prizes:

Best in Category: UVA

Rapid manufacturing and repair is an important part of disaster recovery. Ultraviolet-curable adhesives are often used in traditional manufacturing, this project provides a powerful and affordable UV curing wand for use in the field. Even at the small scale of prototyping it looks to lower the cost of traditional tools by up to five times. Prize: $10,000

Honorable Mention: OpenFluidWarmer

IV fluids that are stored under refrigeration must be warmed before they can be used. This is no problem at established hospitals, but becomes a major issue in the field. This solution combines hot plates, a winding path for IV tubing, and an electronic controller to create a fluid warmer that could be built on scene. Prize: $3,000

United Cerebral Palsy Los Angeles Prizes:

Best in Category: Exoskeleton Gloves

Adding strength and dexterity to a mechanism as versatile as the human hand is a game changer. This assistive device uses a clever pneumatic jamming mechanism for each finger, along with a thumb-like shelf on the heel of the hand for extra gripping surface, and a flex sensor system to add the ability to detect what the user is doing with their hands. Prize: $10,000

Honorable Mention: Adaptive Interface Harmonica

A musical harmonica uses different channels for air to play different notes. The Magpie MIDI project harnesses that versatility into a sip-and-puff system. The different channels are detected individually, and the mount for the harmonica is itself a joystick that can be used for navigation. Prize: $3,000

CalEarth Prizes:

Best in Category: Propel-E 450

Renewable energy is a powerful tool in combating climate change. This wind turbine is capable of outputting 450 Watts of power and is mostly 3D-printed. From the blades, to the custom-wrapped wire coils, it’s a blueprint for building your own, whether it’s an exact copy or you plan to make your own changes to move the open source design forward. Prize: $10,000

Honorable Mention: WinDIY

This wind turbine design (whose name is pronounced “windy”) solves a major issue by delivering variable pitch to the three blades. This is used to adjust how much wind is caught by the turbine, driving the generator at the most efficient speed, or letting the wind pass harmlessly by to avoid over-speed problems that would damage it during strong wind conditions. Prize: $3,000

Best Wildcard:

PolySense: Augmenting Materials with Electrical Properties

The Wildcard category is for projects that are worthwhile but that didn’t address one of the specific challenges outlined by our non-profit partners this year.

What if you could turn any textile or porous material into a sensor? That’s the question asked and answered by the PolySense project that uses piezoresistive dye to build sensors from textiles. This could be shirts and pants, scraps of fabric, paper, or many other materials. Using traditional dying techniques like tie-dying, different areas can perform specific sensing tasks. Prize: $5,000

Spectacular Accomplishments During a Very Difficult Year

Congratulations to all who entered the 2020 Hackaday Prize. It has been an incredibly difficult year as tragic loss of life and suffering caused by the coronavirus outbreak swept the globe. What it has proven is that we are stronger together, working to help one another whenever and wherever possible. This outbreak is among the many challenges facing humanity. Seeing so many entries of the Hackaday Prize striving to provide better independence for the physically challenged, more access to housing and infrastructure for those in crisis, and answers to pollution and climate change are beacons of hope.

Thank you to all who entered, to our expert judges and mentors, and to the staff at our non-profit partners. Dedicating your time and talent to these issues leads the way. It sets the example for others to follow, and builds on a movement throughout the world of people and initiatives working to solve hard problems, and that’s something that really matters.

The Hit List – The routines of cats

The Hit List - The routines of cats

Cats live with a certain rhythm to their days. Those of us who live with them must learn to obey that groove.

TaoZen, my kitty who passed away last week, ruled our home with iron paws. Every day, we all marched to his drumbeat, which usually centered around constant adoration – and treats. The mornings were dedicated to his feeding ritual, which meant putting an extra-large helping of wet food on his plate and standing between him and his brother Monkey so he wouldn’t snarf up all the goods. He could be sneaky about that. One turn of my back and poor Monkey was out of luck. You had to watch breakfast time carefully.

TaoZen was also a dairy lover. We had an odd ritual every morning, where I would pop a bagel in the toaster, slather it with butter, and turn it upside down on the plate. Butter would ooze out, leaving the dish a delightful mess. He would excitedly lead me down the stairs to my office, where I would plop down in front of the computer to read the news while he licked the plate clean.

The first few days after he died, I would find myself mindlessly rubbing the bagels on the plate. It was an ingrained habit, a tribute to a food-aggressive feline who knew how to command the routines around here.

I cannot tell you how hard this is. I now have to think about my breakfast otherwise I come downstairs, see the overturned bagel and start crying. Even poor Monkey seems at a loss. He gingerly eats his breakfast and almost seems guilty for being able to finish it undisturbed.

At night, there is no more TaoZen sitting between us while we read or watch television. That routine is gone as well. The couch has never seemed so empty.

A few days ago, Monkey started coming around at night and spending lots of time on my lap, something he never did because TaoZen was too jealous to share couch time with him. Long, luxurious sessions of petting and purring seem to be what we both need at this tender time.

Although we’re still adjusting, it seems new patterns are falling in place. I have no doubt that rules are about to be established, and once again, we’ll have no choice but to obey. Because that’s what happens when you are roommates with a feline. They are always in charge.

8 Graphic Design & Branding Services for Musicians, Bands & Artists

This article has been contributed by Nick Voorhees.

It’s no secret that social media is over-saturated with competing interests ruthlessly seeking attention. An unfathomable amount of new posts are uploaded every second and most of us mindlessly scroll while our minds are elsewhere.

Like any other business owner, musicians, music producers, DJs and other music creators are forced to navigate these oversaturated waters that are essentially a popularity contest. The music industry has reached a point where branding can create a more successful career than the music itself.

Standing out in a unique way is more crucial now than ever, which has led many musicians down the path of working with visual artists.

The demand for talented graphic designers is at an all-time high because of the large range of services that are needed to create an unforgettable brand. However, it can be hard to know exactly what music creators need and how to connect with them.

There are many ways to find clients in the music industry, and some services are starting to gain more popularity, especially during the pandemic.

1. Cover Art

Unfortunately, people are judged by their covers

Mood album cover by graphic designer

Image source: amazon.com

“Mood” by 24KGOLDN and Iann Dior has generated around 36 million streams on Spotify this year, which means listeners have seen this album cover 36 million times – much to the graphic designer’s advantage. It’s no surprise that many music producers take album art seriously because it will forever be associated with their brand.

Album covers are the most commonly used promotional tool in a music artist’s toolbox. For every song release, the album cover is a powerful resource that can be utilized to capture the attention of the public. A professionally made album cover increases the likelihood that fans and potential fans stop what they’re doing to press play.

The design needs to reinforce the music creator’s brand in an eye-catching, relevant and honest way. If music creators can find a graphic designer that can help them produce a cover that is both original and demands attention, they have won half the battle to create a successful career.

If you’re a graphic designer that wants to sell cover art, check out Melody Nest. You can sell pre-made album cover art as well as custom covers to music creators that have song releases coming up.

Pro tip: Motion cover art has become widely popular on Instagram and many artists post 5-10 second videos with visual effects layered on top of their previously-made cover art. Lots of musicians are willing to pay a small additional fee for this service, so be sure to upsell!

2. Logos & Branding

Musicians have a deep desire to be famous

Music artists' logos

Image source: edmtunes.com

If you’re a true music fan, it’s probably easy to conjure up images of the logos of your favorite musicians. Logo recognition is an integral part of being a true fan because it makes you proud that you even know what it looks like.

An easily recognizable logo is integral to the careers of many music creators’ careers. According to soundplate.com, having a unique and powerful brand image makes musicians “more desirable for bookings, help you shift merchandise and make your online music profiles look much more professional.”

Music logos appear across a range of mediums, including:

live event posters,
merchandise,
social media,
music streaming services and
music videos.

In all honesty, musicians can at times be oblivious to what they want in the first place when they approach designers for a logo, so be prepared to be patient –– you’ll make a lot more sales if you remain calm and collected. If you’re able to create magic, musicians will love you for it and will want to share and post your work everywhere.

If you want to find immediate access to musicians to work with, AirGigs, Melody Nest and Upwork provide options for graphic designers to sell logos to musicians, music producers and DJs.

3. Photoshopped Images

Give their fans something to share

Photoshopped images for musicians' social media

Artist credit: Downlink

Since the majority of musicians need content to post on their social media accounts every day, they need new and creative ways to do it. A great way to stand out from other artists is with images like the one pictured above. Obviously, not everything shared on an artist’s platform will be created by a graphic designer, but they will need more than just cover art and a logo to share with their fans.

Lots of music creators commission artists to edit photos to give their fans a taste of how they want to be portrayed. Artwork like this is very popular in the electronic dance music realm, and DJs love to share visually captivating posts of themselves –– their fans eat it up.

It’s important to remember that each genre in music has a unique aesthetic and visual appeal that’s original to the style of music. Even two styles of similarly aggressive music can have completely different looks. If you’re not sure how to figure this out, make sure to get your client to send you plenty of references.

If you’re willing to conduct business via social media, Instagram is a great way to get this done. Search for tags like #electronicmusic, #musicproducer or anything similar and find artists that post these kinds of edited photos. You may land clients just through a few cold messages.

4. Music Visualizers

Keep listeners entertained

Music visualizer designed by graphic designer for YouTube channel

Image source: ondesoft.com

For those that aren’t really sure what these are, music visualizers, or audio visualizers, are animated videos with visual effects that react and change to the sounds of a song, creating a pleasant experience for the listener. Visualizers are a great alternative to music videos because they are far less expensive.

On YouTube, visualizers have become extremely popular with channels in all types of genres, especially EDM. With the fast growth of electronic dance music, there are many high-profile channels on YouTube with millions of subscribers that use captivating visualizers to keep their fans listening to their channels for longer periods of time. Here are a few worth checking out:

Trap Nation
SuicideSheep
Proximity
UKF

If you’re a graphic designer that has any experience with Adobe After-Effects or other video editing software, then creating interesting visual effects to sync along to music is something that’s worth exploring. Music visualization is a lucrative market that has remained quiet in the mainstream for reasons that still seem unclear, so now is the time to jump right in.

Related: 40 to70% off Adobe Creative Cloud

Oddly enough, Fiverr generates a lot of business for music visualizers. Obviously, they are known for offering “cheaper” work, but there are a good amount of graphic designers charging fair prices and landing a lot of sales. They seem to be the only marketplace online currently selling music visualizers.

5. Lyric Videos

Make lyrics look good

Many artists reach for lyric videos instead of visualizers or music videos for some music releases, like Katy Perry’s Firework . Lyric videos are a bit like a music visualizer but the designer will add in the artist’s lyrics in clever and eye-catching ways.

If you haven’t made a lyric video, below are some helpful tips:

Listen to the song a few times to understand the mood
Google the type of music to learn more about the aesthetic of the genre
Have your artist gather images they want to use
Use the artist’s lyrics as inspiration for fonts, colors, etc
Constantly send updated versions to musicians (a lot of them are extreme perfectionists)

Fiverr is a good choice for lyric videos, but there are plenty of options that you can find in Facebook groups where artists will post queries looking to create these animated videos. If you search for groups like “music producers”, you can find people asking and inquiring for design services.

6. Merchandise Design

Sell out of merch at every show

Music band's merchandise clothing

All great artists have merchandise – whether it’s hats, shirts, jerseys, socks, sweatshirts ot stickers. Many musicians make a substantial amount of their total income selling merchandise at shows and online, so it’s critical to have great design work. This is especially important for larger acts.

According to Tone Deaf, “nowadays, touring artists earn between 10-35% of their revenue through merch sales… the very biggest names bring in $300,000 to $400,000 USD per year.” Merchandise sales fall right under touring as the most lucrative aspect of being a professional musician.

Musicians want to create imagery that not only represents their brand, but something that will sell. So, if you’re talented in both design and marketing, you can really hit a home run by approaching artists both large and small with a few mock-ups (even if they didn’t ask for it) and see if they bite. If what you have is amazing, they may just buy it from you.

Design Hill makes it easy to pitch your work to musicians to help them create their merchandise. Otherwise, create original work and start sending emails!

7. Video Editing (YouTube)

Bring originality to their subscribers

Video editing on desktop computer

Many music artists release videos on various social media channels to increase their brand exposure and generate engagement. As well as the expected music-related videos, some artists have branched out into content like tutorials, tips and tricks, journaling and funny clips.

If they have a lot of subscribers on their channel, they’ll be open to inquiries from good designers to help them broaden their content. If video editing is your wheelhouse, use YouTube and Instagram to find music creators who could use the help of an editor, and reach out to them directly.

Keep an eye out for musicians creating tutorial or educational videos that are of a lower editing quality and send a message to them asking if they’d like help. Music creators will most likely be receptive at some point, so getting yourself known to them at the beginning is a good choice.

Pro tip: Try to find musicians gaining traction as they will generally be the most excited to get some extra help.

8. Social Media and Music Streaming Banners

Consistency is key

SoundCloud banner

Artist credit: Cloudsz

For platforms like SoundCloud, Mixcloud and Facebook, instant visual appeal is mandatory for serious music artists. Great banners are sought after on these platforms because that’s where a musician’s music lives. They want their music’s home to be not only auditorily amazing, but visually stunning as well.

As you can see from the photo above, the circle with the usual Soundcloud profile picture on the left blends into the banner. This is the standard layout for any successful artist or upcoming artist on Soundcloud, so many hire a professional for this job. Usually, musicians hire the designers that made their cover art, so to get your foot in the door, start selling album covers! Offering bundle packages is a good way to upsell.

Conclusion

To really stand out and find clients on any of these platforms, it’s all about having something special to offer. There are countless sellers that all have the same goal in mind… and that is to sell. In order to separate yourself in these competitive landscapes, you have to offer more value than the rest.

One way you can set yourself apart is to provide free samples to potential buyers. To be clear, I am not advocating for accepting jobs for free. But if you’re contacted on freelance platforms and a musician is describing something they need, surprising them with a mock-up without them even asking will immediately pull your potential buyer in.

You can also choose to be receptive and engage with potential buyers for an extended period of time. Ask a potential buyer a lot of questions and get them to talk about their project – musicians often love to discuss their visions anyway. The more a musician speaks with you, the better chance you have at working together.

If you’re looking to sell on social media, rather than reaching out to prospective clients with your pre-made portfolio work, reach out with a design specifically tailored for them. You don’t need to spend hours creating it, but something that showcases that it was made specifically for the target buyer, and only them, will open the door to meaningful dialogue and lead to a mutually beneficial experience.

Provide true value and you’ll do great things.

Stumped on this Meraki MX + strange ISP setup at a remote site with satellite broadband modem

Hello, bouncing from ISP assistance to Meraki assistance and banging my head versus the wall with this.

The ISP has Juniper equipment with a Hughes Net modem and have actually provided x.x.x. 84/30 to the setup. x.x.x. 85 is the modem, x.x.x. 86 is the functional IP for the firewall program, x.x.x. 87 is the broadcast.

The LAN port on the modem has DHCP, ip: x.x.x. 86, Gateway: x.x.x. 85, Mask: 255.255.255.252

The WAN port on Meraki is set up as vibrant, however is revealing some clashing information: https://i.imgur.com/VaIrq9D.png. In one area the WAN1 IP is revealing as x.x.x. 85, and likewise the DDNS hostname of the Meraki solves to x.x.x. 85, which is the modem or it'' s default entrance. These ought to all be x.x.x. 86

It does have connection, and I can reach its status page by IP x.x.x. 86 if I include my own public IP to the enable list. Meraki Client VPN is stopping working from any customer. I'' ve done some package traces from my own Meraki, this Meraki and even did one with the ISP on the modem while attempting to link, the something they all reveal is that customer connects on 500 and 4500, Meraki reacts on 500 however 4500 is inaccessible: https://i.imgur.com/8cSYTxq.png (the.120 is my own public IP). According to the ISP all ports are allowed/forwarded.

One other odd thing is the Meraki is doing ARP ask for it'' s own IP with “” inform 0.0.0.0″”: https://i.imgur.com/0gyCMUc.png which might involve the strange ISP setup.

I believe all the pieces are here however a few of this is simply beyond me to find out what particularly to inform the ISP. I'' m relatively particular it involves their setup, we have lots of Merakis consisting of a number of at remote places like this with satellite or LTE modems that have a vibrant WAN IP with a public address, however they are typically on/ 29 or/ 28, not/ 30. If we might alter the IPSEC port to something else, the ISP has actually not been practical and at one point asked. Meraki assistance hasn'' t been fantastic either, the assistance associate had actually never ever seen a vibrant port with a public IP and stated they couldn'' t assistance unless we plugged a windows computer system into the modem and revealed them the IP it got.

Use feature flags to make your website more accessible

Being able-bodied is a temporary condition.

Some of us are born with disabilities, and some of us develop them. At some point in your life, you will get old enough to need reading glasses, or you will break your arm, or you will develop hearing problems. Are you reading this page through glasses? Are you using a wrist brace or ergonomic mouse? Is your operating system set to dark mode? Those are all accessibility modifications.

The web was born accessible
One of the things I love and appreciate about the world wide web’s governing body, W3C, is that they are constantly working to make and keep the web open and accessible. The standards that browsers and other software use are derived from the W3C recommendations. Your current browser can serve pages from 1998 and they are perfectly legible, and even pretty, if the images were captured.

The W3C has a group dedicated to accessibility, and their new set of standards, WCAG 2.2, will take effect November 2020. In December, a website’s accessibility will be rated based on the new standards.

> WCAG 2.0 and WCAG 2.1 are stable, referenceable technical standards. They have 12-13 guidelines that are organized under 4 principles: perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust. For each guideline, there are testable success criteria, which are at three levels: A, AA, and AAA.

There are lots of easy accessibility fixes for web pages, such as using semantic headings instead of text styling, and using HTML buttons instead of DIVs, and many times, even the lowest level, A, is missing from an organization’s web pages. But like everything in software, progressive improvement and rapid feedback are more useful than a large transformation project that requires a massive commitment.

Some web accessibility needs conflict
Sometimes, accessibility needs conflict. For example, in the example users in the WCAG documentation, some of the users need their text to reflow around increased-size buttons, and some users need the buttons to stay in a stable location for findability. If you’ve ever been frustrated when a phone update reorganizes all your apps, you can identify with how difficult it can be when an everyday interface changes without permission.

Low-vision users are often helped by high-contrast text, black-on-white or white-on-black. However, users with dyslexia and other text-processing disabilities can find the contrast too jarring and need a lower contrast to help them read comfortably–something like dark grey on off-white. It’s difficult for a site or application to meet those conflicting needs, so users often have browser extensions or settings that help them manage their web experience.

Site and application developers need to be aware that not everyone is using their site or app exactly the way the developer sees it. Users may have smaller screens, or be on a mobile device, or have installed browser extensions the developer has never heard of or imagined. This system works as long as we develop according to the accessibility standards that keep the web semantic. It seems contradictory that making the web accessible to machines helps humans, but it does, because the humans are using the computer’s concepts to translate information in a way that works for them.

How feature flags can help
I’ve been thinking about how feature flags could make designing for accessibility easier, especially around the problem of trying to serve populations with different needs.

When it is possible to serve everyone, that should be the default and the main page code. Everyone is served by standards like semantic headings, image alt text, and text that is not an image. Some people need further accommodations, such as reduced motion, tab navigation, or large buttons. Those needs could be flag variants.

A flag can be configured with variations for text display:

Standard (no changes to CSS behavior)
Low-vision (high contrast text, allow resizing)
Dyslexia (use OpenDyslexia font in CSS)
Reduced contrast (Reduce the contrast between text and background)

This flag variation could be tied to a user-configurable setting, so that every time they logged into the site, they would get the text the way they need it, even if they were on a different browser or device.

That’s a simple example, of course. Ideally, developers and accessibility advocates would work together to determine which part of the site or app should be modified, and how it would work in combination with other modifications.

Lack of planning is technical debt
Even if your team doesn’t have user research or accessibility experts available all the time, you can code proactively to make room for them. Accessibility flags would be permanent–you wouldn’t want to remove them as you would a rollout flag. Since they are permanent, there is no harm in using them as a placeholder, they won’t add more testing demand empty than they will full.

At the start of a project, most teams don’t have the resources to do everything they want, even though they know it will need to be done eventually. We don’t do localization for proof-of-concept applications, we don’t write API documentation for strictly internal tools. But if a product succeeds, then we do need to add those elements and they become technical debt that we have to pay off without adding new value to the product.

One of the ways to reduce the cost of this debt is to add placeholders for future modifications. Trying to refactor an application with hard-coded interface elements to accept localization is like trying to add chocolate chips to cookies that are already baked–it’s much less effective. Using flags set to only return a default value (for now) is a way to plan for future changes in your code, without making the full investment.

The future is here
The WCAG standards are not arbitrary or imposed without meaning. They exist to help everyone access the information, services, and capacity they need. When we build sites that don’t meet those standards, we are losing customers, clients, and users–and not in small numbers.

Using feature flags to make your site accessible is a smaller, cheaper intervention than creating entirely separate sites. Feature flags also help build the framework to provide other elements of your site on an on-demand basis, allowing you to meet user needs with precision and efficiency.

The 10 Best Apple Watch Apps for Business

apple watch apps

When the Apple Watch first came out in 2015, there were 3,000 apps available for download. Fast forward five years, and now there are over 20,000 apps—21 of which are built-in.

As an entrepreneur, Apple Watches can be an excellent investment, as there is a wide variety of Apple Watch apps designed with business in mind.

We’ve researched the top ten Apple Watch apps that may make it easier for you to run a company or excel at your job.

Apple Watches: The Basics

Before exploring the top ten Apple Watch apps for marketers and business, let’s go over what Apple Watches are and what they do.

The Apple Watch is a smartwatch produced by Apple. In essence, it’s a wearable, touchscreen computer you wear on your wrist.

What can you do with an Apple Watch?

Answer callsRecord voice memosListen to podcastsReceive iPhone notificationsPay with Apple PayAsk Siri questionsSend texts

Why Should Marketers Care about Apple Watch Apps?

As a marketer, Apple Watch Apps are quite useful, and you can utilize them in a variety of ways to make your campaigns more effective. These are the three features we’ve found most helpful:

Increased social media responsivenessLocation-based alertsEmail alerts

Increased Social Media Responsiveness

Apple Watch apps enable business owners to better monitor social media engagement. Social media has empowered customers to share how they feel about businesses more than ever before. However, businesses have to be listening.

The Apple Watch apps send push notifications to users when someone responds to a post or if someone sends them a direct message. Let’s say someone uses your product or service, and the customer had a great user experience. You’d want to respond quickly to that person, so the customer feels as though you care, and she didn’t waste her time sharing her thoughts.

Conversely, if a customer has a negative experience, you want to solve the problem as quickly as possible. Because your Apple Watch apps notify you immediately when someone interacts with your brand on social media, you can fix issues faster (rather than waiting until you next check your phone or computer).

Location-Based Alerts

Another benefit of Apple Watch apps is location-based alerts. Businesses, especially small ones, may be able to leverage this feature to drive more people to their brick-and-mortar locations.

Location-based alerts are the result of technology called geo-fencing. This serves up ads to mobile device users, including Apple Watch owners, based on where they are.

Geo-fencing works by setting up a virtual “fence” around a business. When someone enters the perimeter, the individual may see an ad for your company. Those ads may result in more foot traffic.

Let’s say a coffee shop has an app, and an Apple Watch user downloads it and opts in for notifications. The coffee shop uses geo-fencing. When the Apple Watch user is near the shop, they receive a notification on their wrist, offering them a discount if they come by right now.

They wouldn’t get this deal via email or anywhere else—why not pop by if they have a few minutes?

Email Alerts

This benefit has less to do with marketing to customers and more to do with staying connected to your business. With Apple Watch Apps, you can check your email wherever you are. You don’t even need to pull your phone out of your pocket to do so.

When a message comes in, raise the arm donning your Apple Watch. This gesture lets you read the full message. When you’re done reading, you can lower your arm, and the watch dismisses the notification.

You can also send emails from your Apple Watch, either by typing or by dictating a message to Siri.

Being able to use email anywhere, without having to dig out your phone and open your email app, may help you deal with pressing business issues faster.

Think Outside the Box

The three Apple Watch app capabilities we’ve mentioned are the tip of the iceberg for businesses. To maximize the value of Apple Watch apps, think outside the box.

There are so many Apple Watch apps that can be used to promote products and services. By thinking outside of the box, marketers may find creative ways to leverage Apple Watch apps to attract, engage, and retain customers. We’ll talk about some of our favorites below.

Apple Watch Apps For Other Business Areas

In addition to their benefits for marketers, Apple Watch apps may help make other areas of your business more effective. Coming up, we’ll discuss six types of Apple Watch apps that may enable you to run your company better:

Customer relations management appsOrganization appsPresentation tool appsApps for sending and receiving paymentsGoal tracking apps

Customer Relations Management Apple Watch Apps

Customer Relations Management (CRM) apps gather information about interactions with customers and centralize that data.

For example, if a customer purchases from you, there’s a record of the whole process. You can see what the person bought, when they bought it, and how much the product or service cost. Did the customer have to bring in the product for repairs? There will be information about the incident in the CRM, too.

Three CRM Apple Watch apps we’ve found helpful are:

SalesforceBottomlineGro

Salesforce

Salesforce has over 30% of the market share in the CRM space. It was also one of the first enterprise firms to launch its Apple Watch app.

The Salesforce Apple Watch app gives users quick access to the charts and raw data they need so salespeople can close a deal and marketers can make data-driven decisions. With this app, employees can record customer interactions and use that information wherever they are, even if they’re not in the office.

Bottomline

While Salesforce works for companies of all sizes, smaller businesses might find it doesn’t quite meet their needs because it has more features than they require. Bottomline is a CRM Apple Watch app meant for smaller companies.

With Bottomline, you can track all of your sales, customers, and products in one place. There’s also a built-in expense tracker function. Bottomline creates reports intended to help answer questions like:

Who are my top customers?Who are my best leads?Which customer personas are most valuable to my business?

Gro

Gro is another CRM app that may work well for your small business. While Bottomline has CRM functionality, Gro is a full-featured CRM. This Apple Watch app offers:

A CRM dashboardLead and contact managementOpportunity managementAppointment scheduling

These components may help you manage your contacts, effectively nurture leads, and cultivate new opportunities. The built-in appointment scheduling feature could also save you time and effort, as you don’t have to navigate to another app to enter a meeting into your calendar.

Organization Apple Watch Apps

Organization apps optimize your productivity. Apps can make tasks more efficient, such as note-taking, project management, and scheduling.

Our research determined the best Apple Watch apps to help with organizational skills are:

EvernoteNotedCisco Webex

Evernote

Evernote has become one of the top note-taking apps for a good reason. It allows you to:

Sync notes to all devicesAdd text, PDFs, scans, audio, and documents to your notesFormat your notesSearch for individual notes

Noted

Noted integrates audio recording with note-taking. What differentiates Noted from other note-taking apps is it adds a timestamp to your audio recording. You can tag specific moments from lectures and seminars to return to them quickly and easily.

Cisco Webex

You may hold a meeting anytime, anywhere, by using the Cisco Webex app for Apple Watch.

The Webex Apple Watch app lets you:

Presentation Tool Apple Watch Apps

Your Apple Watch may even help you deliver killer presentations. Here are two Apple Watch apps for presentations:

Keynote

Keynote allows you to create audiovisual presentations on another Apple device, then use your Apple Watch to control the presentations—keeping your hands free while you speak.

PowerPoint

If you’re a PowerPoint fan, you can use the popular presentation software on your Apple Watch. As with Keynote, you can control the presentation from your watch.

Apple Watch Apps for Sending and Receiving Payments

When the Apple Watch first came out, there was an app enabling users to receive and send money. That app is no longer available for the Apple Watch—but you aren’t left out in the cold, thanks to Invoice & Time Tracking from Zoho.

With Invoice & Time Tracking, you can invoice customers and accept payments on the go. However, there’s no function to pay invoices with the app, so be sure to build that into your schedule.

Goal Tracking Apple Watch Apps

There are several goal tracking apps for individuals which may help you keep tabs on your business benchmarks, including:

ForestStridesProductiveTallyStreaks

Forest

Want to avoid distractions while you work? Forest keeps you focused by rewarding you with an increasingly lush backdrop of plants when you ignore your devices to get stuff done. Making things even better, the app developers plant real trees to reward users and help the planet.

Strides

The best goals are often SMART: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-based. Strides may assist you in reaching your goals by:

Tracking good and bad habitsSetting dates by which to reach targetsProviding daily, weekly, monthly, yearly, or rolling averages of goals metCreating milestones to benchmark progress

Productive

Part of being successful is having good habits. The Apple Watch app Productive is here to help you try to get into a better groove.

The app sets reminders throughout the day and tracks the progress you’ve made toward your goals. When you complete tasks that may lead to the creation of good habits, the app shows you the chain of positive actions that may keep you motivated. There’s even a Siri shortcut, making it easy to access Productive with just your voice.

Tally

Like Strides and Productive, Tally tracks habits. However, Tally may give you insight into patterns you didn’t realize existed.

Let’s say you’re not meeting your goal of writing a weekly blog post. Tally’s tracker shows you this goal has been set for Wednesdays—the same day as your exhausting weekly staff meeting. By moving your blog writing day to Thursday, may be better able to meet your goals.

Another benefit of using Tally is being able to export your data as a CSV file, making it easier to save or share what you’re doing.

Streaks

Want to form good habits? Streaks may help you do that by:

Conclusion
